Anybody using aMember

Before I buy, I just wanted to make sure that DreamHost Level 1 would work with aMember. Here are the requirements below. If someone could just tell me if it will or wont work, that would be great! Thanks!

Script Requirements

1. PHP 4.1.0 or later
2. MySQL 3.22 or later
3. Unix/Linux hosting
4. Ability to load ionCube Loader dynamically (usually possible without any additional settings)
OR Zend Optimizer installed into php.ini
OR ionCube Loader installed into php.ini.

So long as aMember (whatever that is) has been updated to work on Mysql 5 you should be fine. Even if your requirement on #4 is not possible (i don't really know...) you could compile php on your account and do whatever you want.

I am not familiar with aMember, but you should be fine.

As far as I know, all DreamHost servers are running Debian Linux.

PHP is compiled with Zend Optimizer support (v2.6.2).

Actually all new databases are mysql 5 - and this does break some applications.

As soon as I get this site uploaded (my mother's previous hosting company folded with NO warning) I'm going to work on my own site and was looking at using aMember Pro for payment software.

I don't know if you're aware of this or not but...you could download a FREE cms (content management system) to do the same stuff this aMember seems to be capable of. DH offers a one-click install of one called Joomla. http://opensourcecms.com has more cms (portal) type systems that you can view a live demo of the default install of them. I use one called Drupal for marciesgifts.com (which is my web store) and oshietekudasai.com (a site for users of my irc chatroom #learnjapanese to use for various lessons and information).

I have always been confused on how CMS works. My main objective is to be able to have members login once, and have access to other things like forums and chats without having to login for each program. Can a CMS do this for me?

aMember is a cms. It's just one you have to pay for. Most cms portals have forum functionality built in, without the need to install another piece of software for it.

aMember is not a CMS. It is a membership management system that can restrict access depending on membership level. It handles payments and can be used along with most forums, websites, and CMS.

aMember has no content management in itself.

If you sell content, information, web side tools, etc. you need something like aMember to manage your subscriptions easily. It also supports downloadable content protection.

What cart system do you use with Drupal? I'm pretty sure I'll be going with ubercart, but am still open at this point.

I use aMember and it works fine at Dreamhost.
