Has anyone managed to get clean URL's in Drupal.
My understanding is that it requires mods-enabled and a quick listing of the apache2 directory:
ls /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/
suggests that this is not available.
Is there any remedy that anyone knows of (without root access of course)?

I had trouble with getting clean url's too.
One other option that you might want to do is to use subdomains for different categories of your website. About.com uses this technique and it is cleaner than not using anything.
I don't know for sure how well subdomains work with search engines, but I'm sure they are better than nothing.
