Unable to switch to local instal of SpamAssassin

I've tried to install SpamAssassin on my local account using the guide listed in the wiki, but for some reason it is not working.
I get to the point that it says to send a test e-mail and verify that mail is being filtered, but it isn't. There is no evidence of any header activity by SA. So, I typed in the command to feed a sample message to SA, and it filters the sample using Dreamhosts version, not my local version.
There is no log entry or anything that I can use to troubleshoot. It's like it doesn't exist. Anyone else found a fix to this, or know what my problem is?
